Oh the Places You'll Go!

Last night I watched my daughter walk across a stage at the huge Cedar Park Center to receive her high school diploma, along with 702 other students-- her high school graduating class. I believe some remarkable things will come from her and these young people about to embark on amazing journeys... whether it's college, a vocational or specialty training, travel, or some other adventure, this class is full of some of the most spectacular students. Over 500 of them have already taken a college course. When those who have GPA's over 4.0 were asked to stand, it looked like almost 1/2 of them stood. That was incredible! How exciting to be a part of such a phenomenal group of young people, about to make their marks on this world. Kelsey-- we are so proud of you and are so excited for what you have ahead of you. Congratulations! You have worked hard to get here. Look forward-- there is so much to come.

Looking forward... or looking back?

Graduation- a time to celebrate your accomplishments, and a time to reflect on the journey that brought you here. Memories-- of friends, classes, teachers, and events during your high school years. Football games, not so peppy pep rallies, dance performances. Not wanting to take the bus. You couldn't wait to have an "off" period as a senior and then when you did-- you hung out at school nearly every day waiting for your friends. You had some favorite teachers-- and some you want to forget. You had some classes that opened your heart, your mind, your soul... some that stretched you to places you didn't think you could go. Some classes frustrated you. Some you couldn't wait to just "finish"... but you hung in there even when things were tough. Where do you go from here? Where will life take you? What mark will you make in this world? You have so much ahead of you-- so many adventures, so many lessons, so many friendships, love and laughter. Dad and I have nurtured, taught, scolded, reminded, praised and encouraged. Now it's time for you to spread those wings and fly, baby girl. Be amazing. We know you already are.
