Something to be proud of...
Where did I spent my birthday morning? Watching my daughter receive an academic award for achieving a 4.0 or higher average this year, along with 150 other Juniors, and 200 other sophomores. (We watched Nathan get the same award as a Freshman yesterday morning, along with 200 other Freshman)... I am so proud of them. Granted, they are each taking an AP (advanced placement) course which counts as a 5.0 if you get an A, which is what brought their GPA up, but still, that's something to be proud of.
At the end of the awards ceremony, the principal asked the parents give the kids another "round of applause". The parents gave a standing ovation to the students, which was awesome. Then the principal asked the kids to "thank their parents, teachers, and supporters", in which the freshman students gave the PARENTS a standing ovation, the juniors, seniors did THE WAVE! It was a pretty cool moment to realize the kids actually do appreciate their parents and teachers.

Snow Day!
It doesn't happen here often-- but when snow hits the state of Texas, we shut things down. Schools close, roads close, everybody just stays home. Now granted, roads were icy and slippery. We've had below freezing temps since Tuesday morning, and finally just broke the 33 degree mark this afternoon. It will all be melted within the next couple hours... but I can say it was magical, waking up to a "winter wonderland"-- everything was white this morning! Nice to sleep in, kids played and walked in the snow, even the dogs had fun. We've enjoyed hot chocolate, board games, friends over... But... I am also glad it won't be something I have to deal with beyond today!
