So it gets harder and harder to do vacations with the whole family once the kids get big-- they'd rather be with almost anyone else but us. But they did agree to a short camping trip over spring break. We stayed at Black Rock Park, an LCRA park on Lake Buchanan, about an hour away. They offer tent, RV and cabins-- we opted for the cute cabins on the water's edge for a mere $45/night, way cheaper than an RV, and we got real beds, and a/c and heat if we needed it. (Weather was windy but mild, not as sunny as we would have liked, but can't complain.)
Highlights include a day trip to South Llano River- playing around in the water playground, Shadow learning to swim in a current! We also attempted our first "foil" dinners baked on the fire. The first batch was scorched, but second try was much better... Luckily we had leftover hot dogs from the previous night "just in case"... no one went to bed hungry. Enjoyed some great views, quiet time, nice walks along the lake. Shadow chased sticks and swam til he could hardly walk!
